    a lake which has a balance between decaying vegetation and living organisms, where the lowest layer of water never loses its oxygen and where the water contains few nutrients but sustains a fish population
    (Note This situation is typical of a young lake. Over a period of time the lake will eutrophy and become richer in nutrients and also in algae.)
